Manage tasks created in Slack

Please note: the integration between Organiseme and Slack is still in BETA, so not official released.

All tasks that you have created in Slack can also be edited directly in Slack, so both all Slack messages that have been turned into a task and all tasks created directly in Slack.

The following actions on tasks can be performed directly in Slack:

In order to manage a task in Slack you first need find the messages that you received from Organiseme in Slack after you created the task. You can either a) browse through the channel where you created the task or b) search for the message.

a) Browsing throught the channels

For browsing throught the channels please look here:

- For Slack messages turned into a task the related Organiseme message can be found in the same channel as the message.
- For general tasks created in Slack the related Organiseme message can be found in the Organiseme app channel.

b) Search for specific task

You can also search for the task by entering parts of the task description into the search field on the top.

For each new task you have created in Slack you received a message from Organiseme similar to the one in the following screenshot:

This message contains the following information about the task:

  • task description
  • priority
  • due date
  • responsible

In addition there are two buttons:

  • Complete button
  • Pop-up menu with different actions for editing the task where the default action is "Edit Priority"

These options for editing a task are discribged in the following chapters.

Edit priority

Click in the pop-up menu on the "Edit priority" option. Then a pop-up menu with different actions will be shown. Still select "Edit Priority". Then a dialog box will open in front, again with a pop-up menu.

When clicking into the pop-up menu the other options - High, Medium, Low - will be displayed and you can select the right priority. Afterwards you need to press the "Update" button.

Then the diaplog box closes and Organiseme sends a new message in Slack informing that the task has been updated - and also displaying the new priority.

Set or change due date

When you want to set a due date for the task, or you want to change an existing due date, just click on the selector so that the selector's menu will be opened. There select the entry "Edit Due Date".

Then a dialog box appears in front where you can select the due date from a list of due dates.

When you have selected the right due date you need to press the "Update" button.

Then the diaplog box closes and Organiseme sends a new message in Slack informing that the task has been updated - and also displaying the new due date.

Edit task description

In case you want to change the task description, just click on the selector so that the selector's menu will be opened. There select the entry "Edit Description".

Then a dialog box appears in front where you can edit the task desciption.

Once you have updated the task description you just need to press the "Update" button.

Then the diaplog box closes and Organiseme sends a new message in Slack informing that the task has been updated - and also displaying the new task description.

All the changes on the task are automatically synchronized to the task in Organiseme. As shown in the following screenshot, the changes on the priority, due date and task description are also reflected on the task in Organiseme.

Set task complete

In order to set a task complete you just need to click on the dedicated button that is part of the task displayed in Slack.

You immediately receive a message from Organiseme that the task has been completed. You will also notice that there is no Complete button and also no selector to perform any actions on the task anymore.

Again also the completion of the task is synchronized to Organiseme, where the task is completed and moved to the bottom of the task list (depends on the settings for the action of completed tasks).

Assign task to contact / team member

When you want to assign the task to one of your Organiseme contacts or team members, just click on the selector so that the selector's menu will be opened. There select the entry "Assign to contact".

Then a dialog appears in front where you can open another pop-up menu.

Select the contact from the list of your Organiseme contacts whom you want to assign the task. Then click on "Update" and the dialog box closes and a new message has been send by Organiseme informing about the update task - and displaye the new responsible of the task.

Also the change in the responsibility of the task is automatically synchronized to Organiseme, which triggers then that the contact / team member will be notified by mail and in the web application about the assigment of the task, which he / she needs to accept.

Specialities for assigned tasks

For tasks that you have assigned to a contact or team member the actions on the task are limited to:

  • Complete task
  • Edit Priority
  • Edit Due date

For tasks in Organiseme that are assigned to a contact / team member the description cannot be changed anymore. Calling back a task from the contact / team member can only be performed inside the Organiseme web application or mobile app.
